Coming from a Christian home, Rev. Yusuf accepted Christ as his Savior at the age of 18. In the years that followed, he realized God was calling him to work in His Vineyard, he went ahead and obtained different certificates and Diplomas in different fields over the years culminating in his Bachelor of Divinity degree in 1988 from Charles University, Prague, Czech Republic.
After graduating with a Diploma in Youth/Social work, his church – Pentecostal Assemblies of God appointed him as the National Christian Education Director from 1970 - 1979. Bishop Gowi within three years worked as a guest lecturer at a Theological College in Kisumu and other theological schools in East, Central and South Africa. From 1980 – 1982, Bishop Gowi worked for East Africa Bag & Cordage in Ruiru. During this period, he was able to evangelize and he planted 10 churches. From 1983 – 1996, Bishop Gowi worked for Evangelical Fellowship of Kenya(currently known as Evangelical Alliance of Kenya) as the training and discipleship director. EFK is a para-church organization serving evangelical, charismatic and Pentecostal denominations numbering 25 in total in Kenya. Bishop Gowi is married Loice Gowi, a school teacher since 1974 and she will be retiring from teaching on 31.08.2014. The Lord has blessed us with 6 children and many grandchildren. He started the Ministry of KERUDO in January 1996.
The late Rev. Yusuf was married to Loice Gowi, a retired school teacher and they have six children. Since the formation of KERUDO, the organization through Hope for Africa Ministries International (HAMI) has planted nine churches in Maasailand and other nine churches across Kenya.
